摘要：歇后语的翻译一直是翻译学者研究的重点和难点。以《红楼梦》中的歇后语为研究对象,从Verschueren所提出的四个语用研究角度之一——顺应的动态性来分析歇后语的翻译。通过对David Hawkes和杨宪益先生及其夫人戴乃迭翻译的《红楼梦》中歇后语的对比分析,从时空的动态顺应、语境的动态顺应和语言的动态顺应揭示了不同翻译策略在顺应读者认知习惯和文化背景方面的动态调整。研究发现,歇后语的翻译在结构形式上很难完全对等,对于比喻式的歇后语可以尽量保持结构对等,而对于双关歇后语则需要采取意译策略,选择适当的语言进行结构上的动态顺应。
The translation of two-part allegorical sayings has always been a crucial and difficult point for translation scholars.Taking the two-part allegorical sayings in A Dream of Red Mansions as the research object,this paper analyzes their translation from the perspective of dynamic adaptation,which is one of the four pragmatic research perspectives proposed by Verschueren.Through a comparative analysis of the two-part allegorical sayings in the translations of A Dream of Red Mansions by David Hawkes,Yang Xianyi(co-translated with his wife Gladys Yang),this paper reveals the dynamic adjustments of different translation strategies in adapting to readers’cognitive habits and cultural backgrounds from the aspects of dynamic adaptation in time and space,context,and language.The study finds that it is difficult to achieve complete structural equivalence in the translation of two-part allegorical sayings.For metaphorical two-part allegorical sayings,structural equivalence can be maintained as much as possible,while for pun-based two-part allegorical sayings,it is necessary to adopt the interpretation strategies and to select appropriate language to achieve dynamic adaptation in structure.
