摘要：既有辽西会战研究受参战将领忆述影响,认定国民党东北“剿总”总司令卫立煌须为西进兵团战败承担责任,缘于他越级命令该兵团一部返回沈阳,从而打乱了兵团前往营口的既定计划,最终导致全军覆没。实际上,参战将领混淆、隐瞒了关键细节。在得知兵团前有堵截、后有追兵时,卫立煌建议全部退回沈阳以保存实力。然而,兵团司令官廖耀湘却坚持己见,一面停止向营口进军,一面就地采取攻势防御。相隔一日,当廖决心执行卫立煌关于回撤沈阳的命令时,兵团已陷入东北野战军的包围之中、无力回天。因此,应为兵团战败承担责任的是廖耀湘,而不是卫立煌。
Existing researches on the Battle of Western Liaoning,based on recollections of the generals who participated in the war,have maintained that Wei Lihuang,the commander-in-chief of the KMT“Suppression Headquarters”in Northeast China,should be held responsible for the failure of the Westward Advancing Corps,because it was Wei who ordered one part of the corps to return to Shenyang,which disrupted the established plan to advance to Yingkou and eventually led to complete destruction of the whole corps.But the generals involved in the war had concealed and obfuscated key details.In actual fact,after he learned that there were obstacles and threats around,Wei had suggested having the whole group returning back to Shenyang to preserve their strength.However,Liao Yaoxiang,commander of the Corps,persevered in his opinion.He made the decision to stop moving to Yingkou and to take offensive defense at once.One day later,when Liao decided to carry out Wei's order to withdraw to Shenyang,it was already too late since the corps was then surrounded by the Northeast Field Army.Therefore,it was Liao Yaoxiang rather than Wei Lihuang who should take the responsibility for this defeat.
