摘要：爱尔兰文学在英国文学史上占有极高的地位。爱尔兰文学是在母语与英语的征战中发展起来的,而在这种环境之下成长起来的爱尔兰作家则对社会和自然有着独特的视角。生于1953年的雨果·汉密尔顿就是其中之一。他写于2003年的传记《斑点人:从爱尔兰到德国的童年回忆录》记录了他作为一个有着爱德两国血统的作家,对历史、文化和语言的精确认识。在这部回忆录里,他处于三种语言竞争的环境中,其实,学习语言的过程就是寻找归属感的历程。
The Irish literature, which enjoys great reputation in English literature history, develops as the two languages – Irish and English competes with each other. Thus the Irish writers have unique perspective to life and nature, and Hugo Hamilton, born in 1953, is one of them. His memoir'The Speckled People'depicts how he is entangled in speaking three languages – Irish, German and English. In fact, beneath the explicit theme of trilingual acquisition in this book lies an eternal subject of the humankind – pursuit of identity or belongingness.
