摘要：规约性是语言符合的基本特性之一。通过对比汉民族共同语言即普通话和潮汕方言这两种汉语言变体中的相关词汇,探讨这种语言符号规约性背后的文化理据。研究表明语言是一种指称语言外现实的符号系统,其中的符号虽然不与现实有直接、天然的联系,却受到社会习俗、自然环境、礼教规约等文化因素的制约,从而使方言与标准语在语言符号构造、分类视角以及语言符号之间关系等方面可能有不同的表现。
Although arbitrariness is one of the basic features of language, this does not mean that the relation between the word or thesign and its concept are totally arbitrary. The conventionality is the other side of the coin. The present paper analyzed the food wordsin Chaozhou dialect and reached the conclusion that the relation between the word and its concept is constrained by culturalelements, such as natural environment, social customs and rituals ect., which are the motivation of words in a particular dialect.
